Luxurious Master Bedroom Refresh

Content & photographs by Holly Hunka

My husband and I recently vacationed at a posh hotel and our room was perfection: it had a soothing, tranquil ambiance and we woke each morning feeling refreshed and re-energized.

When we returned home and flicked on our bedroom light, we encountered a drab view. Although well-kept, the space was uninspired and both our furniture and mattress had seen better days.

So, we decided to make a change and transform a room we liked into the bedroom of our dreams!

How We Got Started

When it came to furniture, one thing my husband and I agreed on immediately was that we were ready to invest in some quality pieces. Our preferred brand? Universal Furniture.

When moving into our custom home almost five years ago, we purchased Universal Furniture’s Summer Hill dining table and pierced back arm chairs, as well as the Summer Hill lift top cocktail table and end table. After constant, everyday use, they’re still looking brand new – so we knew we wanted their pieces for our bedroom!

I looked through Universal Furniture’s bedroom collections and, though I’m sure this doesn’t come as a surprise, I completely fell in love with four gorgeous – but very different – beds.

I don’t know about you but when I find the perfect bed, it’s SO easy to build a room around it.

I developed four design boards centered around my favorite beds:

A light and airy room featuring the Curated Amity King bed, 2-drawer nightstand and 6-drawer dresser

A luxe romantic room featuring the Curated Respite King bed, Paula Deen Dogwood drawer chest and nightstand, and Crosspoint accent chair

A soothing and sophisticated room featuring the Curated Halston King bed, Paula Deen Dogwood nightstand, Elan storage cabinet, and bed end bench

A luxurious blush room featuring the Curated Boho Chic King bed, Postscript Cancale Linen bedside chest and Paula Deen Bungalow Oleander 6-drawer chest

After much debate, we decided to proceed with the luxurious blush bedroom and now that it’s complete, I couldn’t be happier! We really love how the quality furniture, plush textiles, soothing colors and romantic lighting came together to create such a relaxing atmosphere.

Our Bed

Without a doubt, I’ve never loved a piece of furniture more than our Curated Boho Chic King sleigh bed. It’s grand in every sense of the word – from its quality to its stature – making it the centerpiece of our bedroom.

Plus, its plush, tufted finish makes me feel like we’re living in an upscale, luxury hotel every night!

Our Nightstands
My husband’s favorite pieces are our Postscript Cancale Linen beside chests.

These nightstands are the definition of superior craftsmanship. They’re SO sturdy, you can tell they’ll last for decades. And you’ll want them to: with a linen finish, bun feet and shaped drawer fronts, they have a classic elegance with a masculine edge.

My favorite feature is their felt-lined top drawer, perfect for storing delicate items and jewelry. And at 29 inches tall, these chests are the perfect height to match our bed.

6-Drawer Chest

Although our bedroom features a walk-in closet, you can NEVER have too much storage – especially where clothes are concerned! That’s why I’m so glad we chose to replace our well-loved dresser with this stunning Paula Deen Bungalow Oleander 6-Drawer Chest. I love the contrast of its white linen finish and its dark hardware.  Plus, it’s the ideal size for our space, fitting perfectly under my husband’s 58-inch tv with room for a few decorative accents up top.

Complementary Decorative Accents

To add a bit of interest to our previously plain walls,  we built white board and batten wainscoting throughout the entire room and gave the upper half a fresh coat of off-white color.

We framed our sleigh bed with oversized arch-top mirrors and created a feature wall behind it using blush pink and bronze wallpaper.

We complemented the space with a luxurious neutral-toned rug and white bedding and tied into the blush pink color of our wallpaper with a velvet bench, floral artwork and feminine chunky knit throw and pillow.

Now, each time I flick on the light in our bedroom I feel a sense of calm. It’s our little slice of daily luxury and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
