For more than 35 years, Southern Living has partnered with the South’s best designers, architects, builders, and developers to produce homes that celebrate the Southern lifestyle and the latest innovations in residential design. This year, the Idea House is just 20 miles from historic Charleston, in Kiawah River. The home has been thoughtfully designed to harmonize with the natural landscape and reflect the Lowcountry lifestyle, drawing inspiration from the timeless beauty of traditional farmhouses that have shaped the region’s architectural style. Strategically positioned between two majestic live oaks, the main house and adjoining carriage house are situated to maximize the site’s potential along the banks of Abbapoola Creek, offering expansive views from nearly every room, including the powder room. The floor plan seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a fluid and relaxed living environment. Every detail, no matter how small, has been carefully selected to honor the essence of the Charleston community. This sea island farmhouse features the perfect blend of our Modern Farmhouse and Coastal Living Collections.
